Hummingbird & The Green Lab Partnership

The Green Lab does incredible community work in Ōtautahi, Christchurch. The non-profit organisation designs, creates and tests meaningful greening events, ideas, and spaces, which contribute to the social, cultural, and environmental well-being of the city.

Originally focussed on the regenerative projects in the central city post- quakes, The Green Lab’s focus has since expanded into wider Christchurch as they implement projects like community gardens and collaborative workspaces.

The Green Lab’s values align well with ours here at Hummingbird. These include one of our key company pillars being around coffee crops and sustainability. We’re committed to do good by our communities, and our ongoing efforts to support our coffee growers by paying a premium for fair trade and organic green coffee beans.

Our Green Bean Fund initiative supports our local communities, for every $100 of green coffee beans that we buy, we donate $1 back into local community initiatives.

Boosting productivity and good vibes, Hummingbird is supplying blends of Oomph!, Decaf and new products, Pinnacle and Elevate to fuel The Green Lab’s workdays and evening events at Understorey, located in Christchurch’s wellness hub, The Welder. This collaborative workspace operated by The Green Lab is available to the public by way of a donation to use as an office, or attend the array of weeknight events, including Queer Games Nights and Wednesday Writers sessions.

Furthering productivity, Hummingbird has assisted The Green Lab to complete its latest project, Mairehau Community Garden. An incredible community effort in the north of Christchurch, this aesthetically pleasing garden features shaped, raised garden beds, and calming corners to sit and relax.

To help complete this garden, we donated $10,000 towards labour costs, buying plants, and installing a main water supply – an aspect of the garden that The Green Lab previously didn’t think would be possible.
